GIS Course
Our students Geo Media Design follow several GIS courses during their studies. The first one gives an introduction in working with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online and the making of online and offline maps and storymaps. The first storymap they make is for a fieldwork trip they take around the Netherlands. They see how the Netherlands has dealth with its water over the past centuries, drying up hazardous lakes in favour of agricultural land. What we also show is how different soils form in what we call the 'lower' Netherlands. That's the part of the Netherlands that's at the Sea side and below sea level ofcourse. We let our students download and visualize soil maps, elevation maps and other maps and data based on which they make their own storymaps and paper layouts. This first GIS course supports an assessment where the students research a natural environment and make an online information panel (storymap) about the area, telling about its hydrology, biodiversity, geologic history and other aspects. An example of a storymap made for the fieldwork can be found here: https://arcg.is/0bzaqK0
